MEET THE AUTHOR

Born and raised in San Francisco, California, Thea Matthews is a queer black feminist activist; as well as a poet, an educator, and an author. She is a Black Indigenous Mexican American who writes on the complexities of humanity, grief, and resiliency. She earned her BA in Sociology at UC Berkeley where she studied and taught June Jordan’s program Poetry for the People; and currently, is studying poetry as an MFA candidate at New York University. She is the poetry editor for For Women Who Roar™.

Her debut poetry collection Unearth [The Flowers] was published by Red Light Lit Press in 2020. She has work in the Atlanta ReviewThe RumpusThe Acentos Review, and others.
